Cupra plans to sell large premium EVs in the USA

Cupra, a standalone car brand Seat spun off a few years ago, is considering an expansion of its model lineup to include larger and more expensive electric vehicles. According to the Cupra CEO as quoted by Autocar, these are primarily meant for the U.S. market and are due out in the second half of the decade.

The company reckons it will use the Scalable Systems Platform currently being designed by Volkswagen for the production. The SSP is a technological evolution of two other platforms – PPE and MEB.

There is already an EV in the Cupra portfolio – the Born hatchback shown in the gallery and video here. However, the company reasons it is too small for the United States clientele to warrant a release on that market.
