Volkswagen sub-brand Cupra has unveiled the Born VZ, a particularly sporty take on the Born EV with 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) and 545 Nm (402 lb-ft) of torque at its disposal. Chassis improvements and a sported-up interior are also on the list. The sales will start in Q3 2024.
The abbreviation VZ comes from Spanish “veloz”, which simply means “fast”. The car relies on a single rear-mounted motor to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.7 seconds and ultimately reach 200 km/h (124 mph).
The battery is also new and slightly larger than standard at 79 kWh. Cupra claims 570 km (354 miles) per charge. Perhaps more importantly, you can replenish it from 10 to 80 percent within half an hour.
New shock absorbers and springs, heavy-duty sway bars and 20-inch wheels should cater for a smoother ride in the Born VZ. Inside, there are new seats with improved lateral support and a bigger 12.9-inch infotainment display.
