Cupra Formentor gets a 425-PS chip-tuning option

DTE Systems GmbH has adapted its external engine control unit known as the PowerControl RX to the flagship version of the Cupra Formentor. You can already order it in Germany.

In its stock form, the Spanish car utilizes a 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine good for 390 PS (385 hp / 287 kW) and 480 Nm (354 lb-ft) of torque. Once the control module is plugged in and set up (see video below), the output rises to 425 PS (419 hp / 313 kW) and 588 Nm (434 lb-ft) of torque. This is more than the Audi RS 3 gets from the same block.

The extra torque should help the SUV feel more confident on mountain roads and mild terrain. When not needed, you can disable the tune or switch it to a mode called Efficiency to reduce fuel consumption by up to 15 percent.

Also listed for the Formentor on the DTE website is a pedal unit upgrade called PedalBox+, which should give a snappier throttle response than the stock gas pedal does.
