Cupra has launched production of 3D printed components for its upcoming Leon Competición racecar. Starting now, all air vents and side mirrors will be manufactured in this way.
The new technology grants a number of advantages compared to the more traditional production methods. Among other things, the company can print multiple sets of mirrors varying in shape and size and see which ones possess the optimal aerodynamic properties.
The racecar version of the Cupra Leon comes powered by a 340-hp (254-kW) 2.0-liter TFSI engine that delivers up to 410 Nm (302 pound-feet) of torque to the wheels using a Hewland sequential transmission. Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) is a matter of 4.5 seconds, and the top speed is 260 km/h (161.6 mph).
