A lack of industrial capacities has forced Volkswagen Group to turn to China for new EVs to sell in Europe. According to Automotive News Europe quoting an official statement, only the Cupra Tavascan SUV will be imported for the time being.
The production will take place at a joint enterprise based in Anhui Province. The manufacturer emphasizes that the industrial complex has sufficient production capacity and technology to produce the Tavascan.
The Cupra Tavascan Concept featured in the gallery and video here was introduced three years ago. It is a coupe-like crossover SUV powered by dual motors jointly rated around 300 horsepower (225 kilowatts). Celebrating the fourth birthday of the standalone Cupra brand back in February, the company confirmed that sales in Europe were scheduled to begin in two years’ time.
Other automakers are already selling China-made EVs in European countries. Notable examples include BMW iX3, Dacia Spring and Tesla Model 3.
