Dacia reaffirms aversion to costly trim options

Andrea Guinea, Product Manager of Dacia, made it clear that buyers of Dacia cars are generally not ready to pay for premium features and electronic aids in their vehicles. Therefore, the Romanian carmaker is determined to keep its product lineup up to date, but without fancy options.

According to Guinea, the customers feel that style is important, so Dacia will endeavor to spice up its exterior and interior design and keep it fresh moving forward. However, no electronic assist features will make it inside until the market deems them essential and self-understood.

Legislation changes might also spur the automaker into implementing certain safety-oriented features, but only to the extent required by the law.

She pointed out that plug-in hybrids tend to be expensive. As such, the newly introduced Jogger wagon (featured in our gallery here) will never get a PHEV version. It will get a mild-hybrid powertrain later, though. All-wheel-drive is out of the question.

Dacia cars have been scoring higher in safety rankings lately, but EuroNCAP still feels that complex and costly safety aids would have to be implemented in order for them to be truly safe – an expense that the carmaker considers unacceptable at the moment.
