New Dacia Logan and Sandero spotted running road tests

Dacia (a.k.a. Renault) has been offering its second-gen Logan sedan and Sandero hatchback since 2012. Both come based on an outdated M0 chassis design, which in itself is a minor improvement over the elderly B0. The new generation, which has been spotted on the road earlier today, will benefit from a switch to the CMF-B architecture of the Renault Clio/Captur.

The heavy cladding prevents us from seeing much, but it is already obvious that the Logan gets new body outlines with a very short trunk lid and a highly slanted rear window. In contrast, the Sandero looks more or less the same as before.

The current range ships with more than ten different drivetrain configurations to choose from (subject to regional availability). These consume gasoline, diesel, spirits and condensed natural gas and range between 0.9 and 2 liters in terms of displacement volume (the largest engines are restricted to RS performance trims). Overall, we would expect a few mild hybrids to enter the list in the new generation, and perhaps even one or two full-fledged PHEVs.

Based on the photos, there is a prominent new infotainment display inside both cars. The higher trims will also likely get LED headlights as standard equipment.

Both the Logan and the Sandero are available with the Dacia badge in Europe, while some countries outside the EU know them as Renault cars. This isn’t simply a case of “badge engineering”, though: in Russia, for example, both ship with unique engines, radiator grilles, brake lights and interior trims. In Brazil, the list of original parts is even greater.

Industry observers expect the third generation to premiere at the 2020 Paris Motor Show this fall, or otherwise during a dedicated reveal event. Next year, Dacia will be unveiling its new Logan MCV and a lifted version of the Dacia Stepway.
