The new car popularity ranking exposes the plunge of Tesla from the pinnacle of the market and highlights the simple fact that buyers are increasingly interested in affordable vehicles.
The Dacia Sandero led the charts in the first half of the current year with whopping 143,596 units sold. The Volkswagen Golf landed second with 126,993 units sold and the Renault Clio came a fairly close third with 114,623 units.
As for the Tesla Model Y that topped the ranking in 2023, it took a nosedive this year, landing 8th with 101,181 units sold. One could interpret it as EVs becoming progressively less popular in Europe despite the growing market.
