A new crossover concept named the Daihatsu New Compact SUV made an appearance at the ongoing 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, but Japanese media say it will soon hit the market as the Daihatsu Rocky.
A three-door compact SUV with that name used to be available in Japan in the 1990s. Its modern successor has five doors and utilizes the DNGA car platform.
Highlights include extremely low weight for this vehicle class (980 kg / 2,160 lbs), a dual-tone paintjob, 17-inch wheels, an infotainment system with a nine-inch touch-enabled display, a climate control system, and a wide range of on-board electronic aids.
The Tokyo show car comes equipped with a 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine rated at 98 hp (73 kW) and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft). A CVT is used to send the torque to the front wheels.
The new Daihatsu Rocky will allegedly start shipping in Japan in November. Other regions, including South America, will get it later.
