What you see here is a Datsun 1300 customized to look and perform like a track tool. Its owner spent a year building it with his grandfather, and the result easily makes it into the list of South Africa’s most impressive pickups ever.
For a while, Rohan Estrisen had dreamt about building a rugged-looking and practical truck that would resemble a racecar on the outside. Together with his grandfather, he had its exterior restored and painted anew and then proceeded to replace the engine.
Rohan picked the legendary Nissan SR20 inline-four for the project, outfitting it with a number of power upgrades. In the end, the two-liter, single-turbo mill was able to hit the wheels with 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW). A six-speed manual transmission was tasked with delivering the torque to the back axle.
