DeLorean has so far only shown its Alpha5 EV via photos, but the time has come for the supercar to shine in sleek, expensive metal.
Co-designed with famous coachbuilding firm Italdesign, the all-electric car lunges from zero to 97 km/h (60 mph) in 2.99 seconds. It hit its electronic speed ceiling at 250 km/h (155 mph) and has 300 miles (483 kilometers) of driving range as long as you opt for the largest 100-kWh traction battery.
It is still unclear how many electric motors the Alpha5 has and what wheels they drive. What we do know is that the drag ratio is impressively low at 0.23.
Like its spiritual predecessor, the new DeLorean flaunts fully functional gullwing doors and a rear window stylized to have ‘blinds’ on it for no apparent practical reason other than the reference to the DMC-12.
A factory in Italy will make a total of 88 such cars using powertrains supplied by an uncredited firm based in the UK.
