The recently revived DeLorean brand has rolled out a couple of futuristic concepts that differ in function to the trio of ‘retrospective’ prototypes shown earlier. While those three cars were a designer’s dream about DeLorean’s automotive past that never happened, Plasmatail and the Omega 2040 delineate its vision of the future.
The former is a shooting brake based on the mass-produced Alpha5 EV. The latter is an off-road racer with novel and unusual body styling.
Starting with the 2024 DeLorean Alpha5 Plasmatail Concept, the vehicle has the same front end and partially the same roof as the Alpha5, but an all-new tail with a functional tailgate crowned by a sporty-looking spoiler.
Despite the complex roofline, the car has retained its gull-wing doors opening access to both seat rows. The manufacturer claims the shooting brake combines the same interior space as the Alpha5 with greatly increased trunk capacity. The number ‘2024’ in the name of the model might be a hint at the projected launch date, but the company has yet to start shipping the regular Alpha5, so it is not giving too many promises right now.
In turn, the DeLorean Omega 2040 sports a sleek supercar-like silhouette with novelty headlights, large wheels and exposed suspension components. The parameters and interiors of both prototypes remain undiscussed.
