Bjorn Harms unveils a remote-controlled DeLorean

DeLorean DMC-12, the iconic sports car from Robert Zemeckis’ Back to the Future movie trilogy, has only sold around 10,000 copies despite its apparent fame. Bjorn Harms, from Netherlands, still liked the idea of building his own time travel machine… with remote control functionality.

The project took nine months to complete, including six to build the prototype car and three more to iron things out. The man says the remote control and its chief operating principle are ‘just like in the movies’. There is a big red button for emergencies, and the car will stop automatically if it loses the link with the remote.

The custom DeLorean still comes powered by the standard 2.8-liter six-cylinder engine good for 130 hp (97 kW). Its top going speed is capped at 160 km/h (100 mph) due to the added weight.

Despite the extensive mods, the car remains completely road-legal.
