This DeLorean DMC-12, nicknamed after Marty McFly from the Back to the Future movie trilogy, is a project led by a team of Stanford University scientists since 2015. Watch it drift without anyone behind the steering wheel!
The footage follows the car through more than 1,000 meters (3,300 feet) in a continuous controlled drift without once losing its orientation or hitting a traffic cone.
The creators of the car have set a rather ambitious goal for themselves when they decided to build not merely a partially autonomous vehicle, but a fully driverless drift car. The technological findings from this project could find use in general-purpose self-driving solutions of today, as they allow the car to react to danger with speed and precision no human is capable of.
