Back to the Past: DeLorean DMC-12 could hit assembly lines again

In 2021, Texas-based Delorean Motor Company just might re-launch the production of its legendary DMC-12 sports coupe from the Back to the Future movie trilogy, an anonymous source claims.

The car is expected to get suspension improvements, new steering column and transmission, and a new engine. The old 2.8-liter V6 with its 130 horsepower (97 kilowatts) will reportedly yield its place to a new 3.5-liter mill rated at 400 hp (298 kW).

The resurrected series is going to sell at U.S. $100,000 apiece, the source claims.

An earlier rumor held that DeLorean Motor Company was looking into producing a limited batch of carbon-bodied DMC-12 EVs. The specs mentioned included 200 hp (150 kW) and a lithium-phosphate battery rated at 30 kWh.
