Tesla Model X tries DeLorean clothes on for size

The gas-powered DeLorean DMC-12 became a hit in 1985 with the premiere of the movie ‘Back to the Future’. Now, an owner of a Tesla Model X resolved to style his SUV after that car.

As one might expect from such a low-effort build, the proportions are all way off, but let’s be honest: turning a bulky modern electric SUV into a classic tapered coupe is an insurmountable task for most. This particular project seems fine with being just another homage to the original – and it doesn’t even look particularly bad, at that.

The owner wrapped the whole body in a film apparently meant to resemble stainless steel (that’s what the DMC-12 bodywork was made of) and replaced tesla badges with ones saying ‘TMC’ (a combo between ‘Tesla’ and ‘DMC’). As for the gull-wing doors, they are actually called ‘falcon-wing doors’ and are available for the Model X straight from the factory.

Multi-spoke DeLorean-inspired wheels are our personal favorite exterior mod here, although partly wrapped taillights do add their share of immersion as well. Inside, there are assorted gadgets from the movie on the dash panel and the center tunnel, but no flux capacitor just yet. Having said that, the man behind the TCM-12X Project says it is still very much a work in progress.
