Seres Landian E5 gets an update in China

Chinese automaker Seres is getting a mid-size SUV called the Landian E5 ready for debut on the domestic market. Judging by the patent files, the vehicle has been completely redesigned with a superior hybrid powertrain. The local media suppose that it will go on sale under the name “Landian E5 Plus”.

In case you needed a little bit of context, the original Landian E5 went on sale in China in 2022 (see video). It was essentially a plug-in hybrid version of the second-gen Fengon 580 made by DFSK, a joint enterprise founded by Dongfeng and Seres. This car has now been facelifted with a flat trim coming to replace the fake grille and a new front bumper boasting a large air intake in the middle. The side intakes also look different, while the headlights stay largely the same.

At 4,760 mm (186 in) long, 1,865 mm (72.8 in) wide and 1,710 mm (66.8 in) tall with 2,785 mm (108.8 in) between the axles, the dimensions of the 2025 Landian E5 stay the same as before the facelift. Customers may still choose from 17, 18 and 19-inch wheel designs.

The powertrain is where the biggest changes were made. The car still relies on a 1.5-liter petrol engine, but it comes from a different manufacturer and now outputs only 95 PS (94 hp / 70 kW), as opposed to the old version’s 110 PS (108 hp / 81 kW). To compensate, Seres installs a more powerful electric motor rated at 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) instead of the former 177 PS (175 hp / 130 kW). Thanks to it, the SUV can now reach 180 km/h (112 mph).

The battery pack consists of LiFePo4 cells and comes from Gotion. The capacity is unannounced, but the company promises us up to 150 km (93 miles) of CLTC range and 1,300 km (808 miles) of hybrid range from a full gas tank.
