Speaking in an interview to Detroit Free Press, Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis said the company would reveal a new compact SUV named Hornet later in the year. The car will be part-electric, which seems to confirm unofficial reports claiming it is a nearly complete clone of the Alfa Romeo Tonale (see video).
The first spy shots of an alleged Dodge Hornet prototype were posted in February, revealing a vehicle standing in a factory room without any camo looking like the Alfa Romeo Tonale with new headlights, bumper and hood.
The Italian marque unveiled the Tonale later that month. The car is available with a hybrid powertrain composed of a 1.3-liter petrol engine and an electric motor joining efforts for 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW). A 15.5-kWh traction battery grants it up to 80 kilometers (50 miles) of all-electric driving range.
Kuniskis opined that the company might be able to introduce the Hornet in August this year unless issues with the logistics get in the way.
