Dodge Challenger suddenly trumps Ford Mustang in units sold

Of the three iconic North American muscle cars – the Chevrolet Camaro, the Dodge Challenger and the Ford Mustang – the latter has always been the best-selling one. Things abruptly changed in the third quarter of 2019, though, when it yielded to the Challenger.

18,031 Dodge Challengers found new owners in the specified period, contrasted by only 16,823 Ford Mustangs. The Chevy Camaro lags even farther behind with 12,275 copies sold. The situation looks especially interesting if you consider that the Challenger has been around for a long 10 years, whereas the other two have only recently gotten their updates.

Out of the three, the Dodge is also the only one to improve its sales figures in 2019 over the same period a year before (+21%). Ford’s pony car sales dropped 12.3%, and Chevrolet lost 15%.

Despite the unexpected spike, the annual sales still look favorable for the Blue Oval. Since the beginning of the year, dealerships have sold 55,365 Mustangs, 46,699 Challengers and 36,791 Camaros.
