The so-called crate engine is the most convenient way to power up a classic car. Often supplied with everything necessary, including the electronics, it slots in and improves the output while reducing the emissions – what’s not to like? Naturally, the owner of this 1973 Dodge Challenger couldn’t resist, either.
He took the standard mill out and put a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 in its place, raising the output to the rear axle from 425 to 720 horsepower. He also replaced the transmission with a custom Gearstar one and put a 9-inch Eaton axle at the rear.
On the outside, the restomod wears a sporty livery combining light blue and black and rides on chrome rims wrapped in drag-racing tires. The interior wound up with Hellcat-style upholstery all around, a couple of bucket seats and a digital dashboard trimmed with carbon fiber. The steering wheel was replaced along with the column for optimal handling.
The owner tried to sell the car at an auction in Kissimmee, Florida, a few days ago, but ultimately canceled it with the top bid at $100,000.
