Special Dodge Challenger built in Richard Petty’s honor goes on sale

U.S.-based Petty Garage dedicated a one-off Dodge Challenger build to its founder, the retired racing driver Richard Petty. It came out in late 2010 and will soon go on sale at a Mecum auction in January, poised to win up to $180,000.

We are told that the car was a custom order from the President of the U.S. Automotive Lift Institute. Once complete, it adorned the entryway to the SEMA show of 2012 and then proceeded to embark on a trip across North America, participating in dozens of shows and other prestigious events over the next few years.

The tuning program involved swapping out the stock engine with a 7.0-liter Hemi mill built by Arrington Performance with forged internals, carbon-fiber valve covers and tweaked ECU software. A six-speed manual gearbox with a Hurst shifter carried the momentum to the wheels. When new, the car hit the dyno with a solid 629 PS (620 hp / 463 kW). It should still be close to that mark.

The mileage is not specified. The listing mentions coilovers at both ends, Brembo performance brakes, Forgeline wheels wrapped in Continental DWS Extreme tires, and an all-custom interior with snakeskin inserts and Petty’s signature on the tachometer.
