Dodge retires the Challenger

Having produced the last Challenger SRT Demon 170 finished in Pitch Black last Friday, Dodge is now officially done with the model, Motor1 reports.

Back in June, the automaker presold the last Challenger for $700,000 at a charity auction. It is unclear whether the car assembled on Friday was that final example; it is possible that Dodge decided to keep the last production example in its private collection. We do not have any photos of the charity auction car so it remains a bit of a mystery.

As for the SRT Demon 170 spec, it was introduced this March as the final special edition in a farewell series named Last Call. Being Dodge’s most powerful and fastest production Challenger on record, it packs a 6.2-liter V8 pumping out crazy 913 PS (901 hp / 672 kW) and 1,097 Nm (809 kW) off regular gas. Pouring in E85 bumps up the output to 1,039 PS (1,025 hp / 764 kW) and 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft).

With specs like these, the muscle car zaps from zero to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) in under two seconds. It is nominally street-legal, but heavily drag-racing-focused.

A total of 35,350 new Dodge Challengers have found owners in Q1-Q3 2023. Ford Mustang sales were just a little bit (35 units) behind that. Chevy Camaro ranked third on the U.S. muscle car market with 24,688 units sold.
