Dodge’s newest feature called Security Mode is aimed at protecting the range-topping Charger SRT and Challenger SRT cars from thieves by rendering them just about immovable.
The principle is as follows: upon detecting a hijacking attempt, the car clamps down on engine performance limiting it to 3 horsepower (around 2.25 kilowatts) and 30 Newton-meters (18 pound-feet) of torque. As a result, perpetrators will not be able to go too far too quickly, giving police plenty of opportunity to track them down. To deactivate this mode, users will have to enter a special pin code using the infotainment screen every time prior to starting the engine. Failing this, the engine will be limited to 675 revolutions per minute.
The option is compatible with Charger and Challenger models equipped with HEMI V8 6.2 and 6.4 powertrains.
