Batmobile designer tries selling his unique Dodge Challenger

George Barris is renowned as the mastermind behind the original Batmobile, but he also built many memorable cars, including this questionably styled Dodge Challenger SRT8 ‘Red Demon’.

The muscle car boasts a body and kit that make it look unlike any other. Especially noticeable are aggressive new bumpers, extreme spoilers, doors swinging up when you open them, and staggered chrome wheels sized 20” front and 22” rear. Air suspension ensures a smooth low ride, while the hood flaunts a giant air intake in the middle.

Powering the 2008MY Dodge Challenger SRT8 is its stock eight-banger mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox and rear-wheel drive system. Both the exterior and the cabin sport a combination of red and black elements with some yellow accents thrown in. The mileage meter displays around 6,600 kilometers (4,100 miles), but it looks like the car could have done much more than that before general maintenance. Note particularly the peeling paint, the scratches and other signs of prolonged use.

At an auction that closed the other day, this eccentric-looking Dodge attracted a top bid of U.S. $34,500. We’d be inclined to call it a fair price given its state, but Barris opted to back out of the deal.
