Mopar launches Hellephant, a 1,000-hp retro car engine

Car tuner Mopar has promised us long ago that it would release the most powerful crate engine in its history. Today, it has finally delivered on that promise by launching sales of the 1,000-horsepower (745-kilowatt) Hellephant 426 Hemi.

The logic behind the name choice is actually quite simple. Back in the time when Mopar issued its first 426 Hemi engine, people had nicknamed it “Elephant” for the sheer size and power.

The engine comes wrapped in an aluminum body, has seven liters of displacement room and features an advanced supercharger. The kit also includes a water pump, a flywheel, a front oil sump pan, fuel injectors and coil packs. An experienced service center worker should be able to install the 1,000-hp unit without problem.

There is a catch, though. The Hellephant is an engine meant for retro cars issued before 1976.

The photos feature a 1968 Dodge Charger packing this engine alongside a six-speed manual transmission taken from the latest Challenger Hellcat.
