Dodge Charger GT gets AWD in 1Q 2020

The seventh generation of the iconic Dodge Charger has been around for eight long years and still sells well in the United States. Starting in January, the Charger GT will ship with all-wheel drive support.

Up until now, the GT specification included a 3.6-liter V6 engine with 306 hp (228 kW) and 358 Nm (264 lb-ft), eight-speed automatic transmission, and RWD. The entry-level Charger SXT was the only version available with a four-wheel drive. This changes in January 2020, when the first pre-orders for the new GT launch.

Owners of the upcoming Charger GT AWD will be able to select between two drive modes: Permanent AWD (toggled on/off by pushing the Sport button) and Automatic AWD (on-demand activation). The system will be able to direct up to 90% of torque to any given axle between 1,800 and 6,400 RPM. The stabilization subsystem will turn off for as long as AWD is active.

In terms of pure eye candy, the Charger GT AWD sports new bumpers, radiator grille, hood with air intakes, side skirts, and rear spoiler.

Prices in the USA will begin from $36,490, including shipment. To put things into perspective, the most basic Charger costs $29,470. Pre-booking will become available next month, and the first shipments will be made later in the first quarter of 2020.
