Video details the intricacies of a Dodge Charger ute conversion

The tradition of building light pickups also known as utes is especially popular in Australia, but there is a certain fanbase in the United States as well. A few weeks ago, Smyth Performance previewed a Dodge Charger converted into such a pickup – and has now followed up with an insightful video detailing the process.

Thanks to the extensive use of unitized parts, the company avoided having to design the aluminum truck bed from scratch, instead using an existing design. The main challenge was to reinforce the body after all the cuts, especially in the b-pillar area where the cabin and the bed attach to each other. Fabricating GFRP bodywork for the rear end was also necessary, as was designing a suitable partition wall for the back of the cab.

The aftermarket specialist is already offering the upgrade kit for all Chargers equipped with six- and eight-cylinder engines rated up to 800 horsepower. The advance payment is as small as $1,000, and you can order delivery to most countries around the globe as long as you are prepared to install the kit on your Charger and make it road-legal.
