A restored 1971 Dodge Charger R/T nicknamed “Coke Bottle” in the United States is being auctioned off right now in great condition with a rare V8 under the hood. The current best offer is $121,000.
In its third generation that emerged in 1970, the model received an overhauled exterior design somewhat resembling a soda bottle – hence the moniker. It had still shipped with the same motors as before for several months. Out of 3,118 R/T models made in the first production year, only 63 were upfitted to the V8 Hemi spec and received seven-liter (426ci) engines.
The V8 Hemi was new for the Charger at the time and drove the wheels with 430 PS (424 hp / 316 kW) and 665 Nm (490 lb-ft) of torque. The muscle car needed just 13 seconds for its quarter-mile run. The particular example on sale additionally received a rare Hurst four-speed M/T, while the majority of the cars made do with a three-speed A/T. After the model year 1971, the massive engine once again dropped out of the Dodge Charger lineup.
The car on sale was stripped down to the frame with the body completely restored and resprayed and the interior re-trimmed with light-hued leather. The engine also received its share of maintenance, and the odometer was reset. It now shows 1 mile, so figuring out the total mileage is no longer possible.
