A representative of Stellantis N.V. let it slip that Dodge dissolved its Street & Racing Technology (SRT) subdivision.
There is no official confirmation as of yet, but the announcement lines up perfectly with the recent statement made by Dodge CEO Timothy Kuniskis. He said not long ago that the company was retiring the iconic supercharged V8 6.2 and focusing on electrification instead.
The SRT division was originally formed in 1989 as the Team Viper to design and produce the original Dodge Viper. The supercar hit the streets two years after that, and the department has changed names multiple times since. For a while, the abbreviation SRT had even been considered as a standalone car brand.
There is little doubt that, despite the apparent dissolution of the performance car division, Dodge will keep the key engineers and designers around to assist with creating new sports cars.
