When Dodge promised us to make 2000 units of the world’s most powerful production SUV, the Durango, it underestimated the demand by a wide margin. As a result, 1000 new units will soon hit the assembly lines in Michigan in June.
The carmaker admitted that the demand exceeded all expectations, prompting the company to intensify the Durango production and even borrow some V8 Hemi powertrains from other planned Hellcat units.
Despite these measures, the Durango remains the most exclusive production Dodge on the market. For example, even the rare Challenger SRT Demon counts 3,300 units worldwide.
Powered by a 6.2-liter eight-banger, the SUV hits the wheels with up to 720 PS (710 hp / 529 kW) through an improved eight-speed automatic transmission. The standard 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) sprint lasts 3.5 seconds, the quarter-mile time is 11.5 seconds, and the top speed lies at 180 mph (290 km/h).
