Check out a particularly rare Shelby SUV

This Shelby Super Pursuit 360 may be wearing Dodge Viper colors, but it is actually a first-gen Dodge Durango customized by Carroll Shelby himself. This example is 23 years old and has 136,500 km (84,800 miles) under its belt, though, so the selling price was low.

Chrysler and Shelby companies co-designed the one-off ride a quarter of a century ago for a SEMA show. It was an instant success and prompted small-scale production that lasted a year. The tuner says fewer than 300 units was built, but this one – number 41 – stands out from the crowd thanks to its rear-wheel drive system.

Powering the off-roader is a 5.9-liter V8 rated at 360 PS (355 hp / 265 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. No other production SUV in the late 1990s had an engine quite as powerful. It needed 7.1 seconds to go 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) and did not hit its speed ceiling until 230 km/h (143 mph).

Like all other Shelby Super Pursuit 360 models (watch the video for another example), this one received upgraded brakes, an aerodynamic kit and a sportier suspension system with less ground clearance. Sport seats and extra gauges made it into the cabin. All cars were finished in vivid blue with white stripes.

Despite the serious mileage, the car is reportedly still in great condition, having stood unused for the past several years with regular maintenance performed on it. Even so, whoever bought it at the auction ended up paying mere $15,899 USD – a fraction of the original asking price of just $60,000 (more than $100,000 if you adjust for inflation).
