FCA sure seems impartial to the darkest of colors: think about Chrysler S, Dodge Blacktop and Jeep Altitude for just a few examples. Today, the Ram pickup truck line joins the club with Heavy Duty Black Edition.
The limited batch consists of Ram 2500 Limited and 3500 Limited models in RWD and AWD versions (see the video for an overview of the Limited trim). Blackness extends as far as the body, the grille, the door handles, the mirror caps, the towing eyes and the wheels. The latter can be 20-inch aluminum rollers or 17-inch stainless steel, dual-tire rims. The LED-based lighting all around also gets darkened a bit, while the interior isn’t any blacker than stock.
The special edition will ship with a choice between a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 @ 416 hp (310 kW) and 582 Nm (430 lb-ft) of torque and a 6.7-liter I6 diesel @ 375 hp (280 kW) and 1,152 Nm (850 lb-ft). The former links to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, and the latter makes do with six gears.
Sales in the United States launch in the third quarter of the year, with the 2500 Ram Limited Black Edition starting from $62,745. The currently available Limited spec begins at $61,450, so the premium isn’t that big.
