Mistakenly ordered Dodge Viper V10 goes on sale

An auction is up for an eight-liter power plant of the first-gen Dodge Viper supercar that the company produced against a misplaced order. It has never been inside a car and is currently being traded for $10,500 with a few hours remaining on the clock.

In the mid-1990s, a service area worker needed to order some red paint to fix a scratch on a client’s car, but put in a wrong number in the order form. Imagine the surprise when the dealership took delivery of a Viper V10!

The mill in question comes with all the necessary hardware including a generator, a power steering pump, an air conditioning compressor, as well as supports, belts and rollers. It is rated at 406 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) and 630 Nm (465 lb-ft) of torque.

Back in 1996 when the incident happened, the dealership somehow failed to return the engine to the factory. It had changed hands several times, but had never been taken off its OEM stand. Whoever buys it can make it an exotic exhibit or put it inside a custom car.
