Chinese automaker Dongfeng has taken the wraps off the Fukang ES600, an electric sedan built on the same platform as the second-gen Peugeot 408 (see video). The third generation is coming soon for the ICE car in China.
Compared side-by-side with its gas-chugging relative, the only noticeable difference of the Fukang ES600 is its solid front grille with a charging port underneath. The rest stays identical.
The cabin is a different story. The dashboard is now digital instead of analog, there is an infotainment touchscreen on the center console, and the gear selector is now a rotary knob instead of the usual lever.
A single electric motor drives the front wheels with 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW). A 53.6-kWh traction battery gives the car 430 km (267 miles) of NEDC-rated range. The measurement standard is outdated, so you may want to reduce that number by about 30% to get a more realistic range estimate for daily driving conditions. This gives around 300 km, or 186 miles.
Prices are pending. Fukang is positioned as an affordable EV marque in China, which means the new ES600 model should not be too heavy on the wallet.
