China presents another Toyota RAV4 rival with a futuristic cabin

Dongfeng has shared the first photos of the Aeolus Haoji, a premium SUV for China and the first product of the new Aeolus brand.

The car comes based on a new architecture that evolved from the CMP platform of Citroen and Peugeot. According to AutoHome.cn, sales will begin in the second half of the year. Buyers will be able to choose between ICE and hybrid variants, but there will be no pure EV.

While the specific dimensions have not been revealed yet, the company calls the Haoji a mid-size SUV, placing it in the same market segment as the Kia Sportage, Toyota RAV4 and Volkswagen Tiguan.

The large front grille, which its designers liken to a waterfall, comes with narrow inbuilt LED DRLs. There are massive headlight sockets at both sides of the bumper, and taillights follow the same stylistic direction.

The interior is futuristic and appears to house a giant two-part display serving as the digital gauge cluster and the infotainment system. There is a bare minimum of physical buttons in view and plenty of touch-sensitive controls found on the front panel and the bulky steering wheel spokes. It looks like the passenger to the right gets another, rather narrow display all to themselves.

The base spec will ship with a 1.5-liter turbo engine rated at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission type is seven-speed dual-clutch. A hybrid will debut later on, and Dongfeng reveals nothing about its appearance or technical configuration.
