Citroen let its premium DS subdivision become an independent car brand a few years ago hoping to conquer the upper part of the market with it – but to no avail. According to the latest unofficial reports, the struggling marque is nearly ready to ditch its premium status and try its luck where the sales are still brisk.
Reportedly, the company is preparing to launch a new affordable crossover SUV in early 2023 based on the DS 3 Crossback chassis and drivetrain. Unlike that model, however, the newcomer will feature standard rear doors and a much simpler cabin.
Neither Citroen nor DS have commented on the news so far.
