DS 3 Crossback patent photos revealed

DS has published patent photos of the 3 Crossback, the smallest crossover SUV in the entire range of the French automotive brand. The vehicle will eventually phase out the hatchback model of the same name and share the market niche with the MINI Countryman and the Audi Q2.

Based on the images, the French vehicle will take after its senior sibling, the DS 7 Crossback, while also drawing inspiration from the DS 3 (look for the “shark fins”). Its interior will follow the same design philosophy as the DS 7 Crossback.

The car will be based on a brand-new platform called CMP. This new architecture is reportedly ideal for hybrid and all-electric vehicles, and the DS 3 Crossback line will be getting its all-electric variant, too. Its driving range is manufacturer-rated at 450 kilometers (280 miles), which is much better than the hybrid DS 7 can do.

That aside, buyers will be able to select from a variety of regular gasoline and diesel models, but no performance figures are available to date.

The series should celebrate its international premiere at the Paris International Motor Show this autumn.
