French car marque DS came out of Citroen six years ago, leading to the Citroen DS4 hatchback being rebranded as the DS 4 in late 2014. Its crossover version called Crossback emerged with a facelift a year later, but left the market in 2018 due to low demand. Now it looks like the company will be bringing it back.
Reporters claim the car spotted earlier today is a hybrid-powered DS 4 Crossback E-Tense. The main indication is the rear window sticker saying it is an electric car and listing emergency instructions. This is not surprising, because DS said it wanted to electrify its entire range.
The car likely runs on the same EMP2 architecture as the DS 7 Crossback, the Opel Grandland X and other modern PSA Group vehicles.
It is assumed that the Crosback will come to the market along with the new DS 4 hatchback, and will sport roof railings, an off-road body kit and tweaked suspension to distinguish itself.
The hybrid may offer all-wheel drive similar to that of the DS 7 SUV with its 1.6-liter gasoline engine, two electric motors and 300 hp (224 kW). The latter runs on a 13.2-kWh battery sufficient for up to 58 km (36 miles) of WLTP-rated range.
Sales should start next year, and production will likely being at the Opel factory in Rüsselsheim am Main, Germany, later in 2020.
