EV sales take a nosedive in Germany

Electric car sale volumes have seen a dramatic 30.6% decline in Germany last month.

In late 2023, the country authorities decided to stop subsidizing battery-electric car sales. Back then, most automakers were afraid of the sales trickling out and thus decided to cancel out the price surges at their own expense. Most of these manufacturer-side EV discounts had remained in place until the end of April 2024. Most were never prolonged.

As a result, EV sales plunged by 30.6% in the country in May 2024 compared to the same month the year before.
