Exeed LX gains muscle, puts on makeup

Exeed, the premium sub-brand of Chery Automobile, will be launching a new version of its LX SUV. The Chinese Ministry of Industry of IT lists new exterior styling parts and a more powerful 2.0-liter TFSI.

AutoHome specifies that the car gets 261 PS (257 hp / 192 kW) from its new engine, making it the most powerful non-hybrid LX model on the market. It looks like the mill comes straight from the full-size VX SUV.

On the outside, you will instantly recognize the soft-roader by its radiator grille, which trades horizontal bars for a mesh and loses the frame. Large air intakes at both sides of the front bumper are gone, replaced with vertical inserts, and the exhaust tips are now round instead of trapezoid.

Judging by the patent shots, the exterior comes with optional color accents shown on some images, but not all of them. It looks like the grille may also be optional or otherwise restricted to a specific trim level.

Those who feel like they don’t need that much power may still go with the usual 1.6-liter turbo engine capable of 201 PS (198 hp / 148 kW). The larger engine consumes 7.68 liters of gas per 100 kilometers (thus yielding 30.6 miles per U.S. gallon), so it makes sense to think economically.

The launch date and pricing remain to be announced.
