The ambitious EV startup had planned to begin assembling its FF 91 model in 2018, but continued financial struggles forced it to shelve those plans. Apparently, the work on the car never stopped.
The vehicle unveiled earlier this week in the United States was a pre-production example, but company VP Matt Hall called producing it at a factory in Hanford, California “a monumental step” for Faraday Future. He also praised the FF 91 as the first truly luxury-oriented electric SUV.
If everything goes smoothly in the coming months, the company will be producing a handful of vehicles every month sending them to final road tests, as well as validation and certification procedures. Full-scale production is expected to begin in the third quarter of the year.
Performance-wise, the car still has the same exact specs as its prototype several years ago. The top specification utilizes a trio of electric motors rated at 1,065 PS (1,050 hp / 783 kW) and draws its power from a 130-kWh traction battery. This should enable it to sprint 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) in around 2.4 seconds and cover more than 600 km (373 miles) before charging becomes necessary again.
Depending on the trim level, the interior will house up to 11 displays summing up to more than 2.5 meters (8.2 feet) diagonal size. Another interesting feature comes in the guise of “zero-gravity seats” reportedly designed with NASA technology. We should be able to learn more about these in the coming months.
