Volkswagen Group has been cooperating with FAW Group for nearly three decades now, and VAG-branded cars are currently being produced in four locations in China, summing up to 700,000 annual units. Even so, Audi intends to further its partnership with FAW soon.
The new joint enterprise that the German auto marque plans to establish in China will be producing sporty and expensive electric cars based on the PPE chassis (Premium Platform Electric). Just like the J1 platform of the current Porsche Taycan and the upcoming Audi e-tron GT, the PPE is a joint project between Audi and Porsche.
Audi hopes to be able to launch a few brand-new EVs in China in four years. No further details are being provided, but the existing FAW-Audi enterprise already makes the Q2 L e-tron and standard e-tron models (see video).
