Audi stretches its A3 for the first time

The next-gen Audi A3 lineup for China includes a new A3L sedan with an extended wheelbase. The newcomer joins the company of the five-door hatchback and the standard sedan.

At 4,548 mm long with 2,680 mm between the axles, the A3L has an extra 53 mm of length and 44 mm of wheelbase. This should mean more legroom for the rear seat occupants, but even so, the A4 sedan remains far ahead with its body length of 4,738 mm (standard) and 4,851 mm (LWB). The interior trim is nearly identical to that of the international version, but the equipment list is much more modest.

The FAW-Volkswagen joint enterprise will launch the A3L in production with the standard-length A3 Sportback. The entire lineup uses the same 1.4-liter turbocharged engine rated at 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW), a seven-speed S tronic semi-auto transmission, FWD, and semi-dependent rear suspension. Sales are expected to launch in January.
