We have already reported about Toyota’s decision to launch a rebadged Highlander under the name of Crown Kluger. Meet Crown Vellfire, yet another model with “Crown” its name that has nothing to do with the eponymous sedan.
The car is in fact just a rebranded Vellfire minivan that is currently being produced in Japan and China. Some other markets will recognize the same model as the Alphard. In China, the FAW-Toyota joint enterprise handles its production.
The not-so-new Toyota Crown Vellfire has the same front bumper as its Japanese cousin and a crown-shaped badge at the front end. Its 192-PS (190-hp / 142-kW) powertrain based on a 2.5-liter non-turbo four-pot stems from the Crown Kluger.
Trim levels remain unannounced, but prospective buyers should be looking forward to luxury trims with multi-contour second row seats.
The production of the Toyota Crown Vellfire will begin soon; the model will be available exclusively in China.
As for the original Crown sedan, Toyota finally discontinued it in China last year after many decades in production and fourteen generations. A new Avalon saloon came in to fill the gap. On other markets, the fifteenth-generation Crown will continue to be available.
