Soon after the Volkswagen Arteon series debuted in the liftback body style three years ago, rumors started circulating that an estate/wagon version was also underway to the market. Many unofficial 3D renderings later, someone has finally revealed the family-friendly variant of the Arteon.
The source claims the photos were secretly made at the FAW-Volkswagen joint enterprise in China. The Arteon series is known as ‘CC’ there, the convention VW used to denote the four-door coupe based on the Passat chassis. It would therefore make sense if the car hits the market in China named something like ‘CC Shooting Brake’.
This is not the most interesting bit, though. Note that the wagon depicted here sports an off-road body kit. This may mean that the new Arteon will be getting a Travel Edition modeled after the Skoda Superb Scout: slightly taller ride height, unpainted plastic skid plates, and a new drive mode called Offroad.
Rumors now insist that the car will grace the European market with its presence in late 2021. Aside from the new body shape, the Arteon series will reportedly get a new engine: specifically, a turbocharged six-cylinder unit rated at 400 hp (300 kW).
Volkswagen has not commented on the alleged leak yet.
