Dealerships in China have begun accepting pre-orders for the new affordable crossover/SUV called Jetta VS5 (essentially just a trimmed-down VW Tharu). Only a small deposit amount is necessary, and shipments start as soon at September 5, 2019.
Compared to its donor vehicle, the VS5 sports new glass dome, radiator grille, bumpers, headlights, and muscular-looking hood.
To make sure the car’s price tag stays as attractive as possible, the manufacturer had to resort using to the cheapest cabin finishing materials available. Despite this, the tech level stays surprisingly high with a multi-function sports steering wheel, an infotainment system with a large touch-sensitive display, and an originally styled instrument cluster livening things up.
Options include 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control or air conditioner, six airbags, ESC, and ABS.
A 150-hp (112-kW) turbocharged gasoline engine sends the torque to the front axle via a six-speed automatic transmission, and you cannot get AWD even if you agree to pay for it.
The new Volkswagen Jetta VS5 starts at 89,800 Chinese Yuan in China, which translates into 12,700 USD.
