The 2019 International Engine of the Year competition is finally over, and the results have been announced earlier today. For the fourth year in a row, Ferrari claims the top prize, this time around for its 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 (488 Pista, F8 Tributo).
The main contenders of the Italian marque were Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, and Audi.
The Best New Engine award went to the all-electric powertrain of the Jaguar I-Pace. The same vehicle also claimed the top prize among EVs.
The Best Hybrid title went to the 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit of the BMW i8. The Best Sports Engine nomination was promptly grabbed by the abovementioned Ferrari 3.9 V8.
Rumor has it that the award-winning mill will become a part of a 1,000-horsepower (745-kilowatt) strong hybrid powertrain of an upcoming Ferrari hybrid hypercar. Assisted by a trio of electric motors, it will take the vehicle from nothing to 100 km/h (62 mph) in two seconds flat.
