Ferrari unveils its next supercar: the F8 Spider

Ferrari has unveiled the F8 Spider, a supercar with a two-piece retractable hardtop. Despite the fact that the convertible weighs 70 kilograms (154 lbs) more than its coupe counterpart does, both sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in the same 2.9 seconds.

Technically, the newcomer comes closest to the same-platform F8 Tributo. In particular, it packs the same 3.9-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 rated at 720 PS (710 hp, 530 kW). It also uses the latter’s seven-speed DCT with preselection.

As we said above, the Spider hits 100 km/h just as fast as the coupe does. With that in mind, it is still a bit slower to reach 200 km/h (124 mph), taking 8.2 seconds instead of 7.8. The top going speed is 340 km/h (211 mph).

Standard equipment includes brake pressure control and a skid assist system, among other things.

Pre-orders are already open, but the first buyers won’t get their Ferrari F8 Spiders until 2020.
