A fake Ferrari 250 GTO California in subpar overall condition just found a buyer in the United States who was willing to pay $337,000 for it. For perspective, a new Porsche 911 Turbo will cost you $183,000.
The main selling point was that the replica starred in the 1986 movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. Most of the scenes filmed featured a genuine Ferrari 250 GTO California, while the fake convertible was used in the scene where it crashes through a second story window and onto the ground below. It never had a powertrain of any kind, but was outfitted with special rings for suspending it in mid-air during the shoot.
In the aftermath of the filming, the hood and trunk doors lost their latches, one of the taillights fell off and the paint ended up with chips and dents. Apparently, this was not enough to deter someone from buying it for a good third of a million USD. Good for them!
