A $50M+ Ferrari catches fire in Goodwood

The Goodwood Revival 2023 race nearly culminated in a bad accident as an ultra-expensive Ferrari 250 GTO burst in flames on the track. Fortunately for everyone, the fire was promptly doused and no one was hurt, CarBuzz reports.

Karun Chandhok, ex-Formula 1 driver from India, was behind the steering wheel of the legendary 250 GTO as it suddenly sprang an oil leak. Aside from setting the car aflame, the slippery spill threw it off balance and off the track. Chandhok was able to regain control quickly and drive the car off the track, even though it meant letting the soles of his shoes melt away from the heat.

Professionals who inspected the car said it was likely an easy repair with only the rear end significantly damaged. For his own part, Chandhok posted on X that he was sad to have to end his dream car race in this way, but ultimately happy that it ended well. He had held the 4th position before exiting the race.
